Ponderosa’s Pool Party, started with a voice, a silver highlonesome in a mist (or maybe the mist was the voice), an electric guitar that identified itself (verbally, and I’m translating here) as He-who-makes-things-sprout, then a convergence at something analogous to a rain dance, as if conducted (in lapis lazuli) by Keith Moon. Pianos and guitars and harmonies breathed into existence tetrahedrons, Spanish friars, bird-lions, machine elves, Quetzacotl, so forth, and landscapes, always the sweeping, rolling variety. No point going on about what the music looks like. To paraphrase the giant, blazing eye that cries honey, you must see for yourself.
Howlin’ Wolf and Sleeping Giant present Geto Boys Friday, June 07
Geto Boys (originally spelled Ghetto Boys) from Houston, Texas, consisting of Scarface, Willie D, and Bushwick Bill are the founders of Southern rap and is considered one of the greatest musical groups of all time. The Geto Boys' lyrics push reality rap themes to extremes. They are credited for having inspired a legion of acts, including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, UGK, T.I., Goodie Mobb, OutKast, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Z-Ro, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Juvenile, Mystikal, Esham and Insane Clown Posse. In the early 1990s, several American politicians attacked rap artists associated with the sub-genre gangsta rap, including the Geto Boys. A high-profile incident in which Bushwick Bill lost an eye in a shooting was indicative of the group's 1991 album, We Can't Be Stopped. The album cover features a picture of the injured Bushwick being carted through a hospital by Scarface and Willie D. The album featured the now classic single, "Mind Playing Tricks on Me", which became a big hit and charted at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100.

It would take too long to cite all of Doug’s credits, but here’s a small sampling: He has his own documentary called Super High Me based on a joke from his standup act. It’s available on DVD! How does a little show called NBC’s Last Comic Standing grab you? Fact: he finished top six in the 2007 season, no big deal. Doug was a series regular on four seasons of VH-1’s Best Week Ever. He makes recurring appearances on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. His secondComedy Central Presents half-hour special premiered in January ’09. He had the nerve to hit on Jennifer Aniston on the classic sitcom Friends, is a character on The Sarah Silverman Program, and oops, almost forgot, got Larry David in a headlock on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. If that’s not enough for you, he’s a creator/writer/star of The Marijuana-Logues, a show that’s been a hit (small pun intended) in clubs and theatres from Los Angeles to New York – and drew a bongload of rave reviews. Now there’s a CD, also called The Marijuana-Logues, and a book, The Marijuana-Logues: Everything About Pot That We Could Remember. In 2006, High Times Magazine named him Stoner of the Year, and in 2009, he successfully made it to all the shows in his thirteen-day Medical Marijuana Tour. Now Doug has four CD’s out on Comedy Central Records: Unbalanced Load, Hypocritical Oaf, Potty Mouth and Smug Life. He continues to express his love of movies on his Doug Loves Movies podcasts (available on iTunes). And Doug’s long-running live show, The Benson Interruption, was recently a series broadcast on Comedy Central.
